Mariposa Alas de Daga Naranja - Marpesia petreus CRAMER, 1776
Hello to all friends and insect lovers... I wanted to share with you today my first record since a couple of years of this beautiful butterfly from my region.
The M. petreus is a beautiful nymphalid butterfly from our area (I saw it in the mountains of Montalbán, Carabobo, Venezuela).... It is a butterfly usually seen near water sources during the pinnacle of the rainy season... However, I don't remember seeing any during the last year, which seems to me to be related to the fact that in 2021 we had a rainy season with normally low rainfall.
I came across this one near a small stream in the last few days, unfortunately I could only take a single picture as the specimen flew away quickly after I took the picture and did not come back to roost in the vicinity.
However, the photo is decent enough to show the characteristics of this species with open wings, so I decided to share it.

Hola a todos amigos y amantes de los insectos... He querido compartir hoy con ustedes mi primer registro desde hace un par de años de esta hermosa mariposa de mi región.
La M. petreus es una hermosa mariposa ninfalida e nuestra zona (esta la avisté en las montañas de Montalbán, Carabobo, Venezuela)... Por lo general es una mariposa que suele verse cerca de las fuentes de agua durante el pináculo de la temporada lluviosa... Sin embargo no recuerdo haber visto ninguna durante el año pasado, cosa la cual me parece relacionada con que en 2021 tuvimos una temporada de lluvias con precipitaciones normalmente bajas.
Me topé con esta cerca de un pequeño arrollo en días pasados, lamentablemente solo pudo hacer una sola fotografía pues el espécimen voló rápidamente tras yo hacer la foto y no volvió a posarse en los alrededores.
Sin embargo, la foto es suficientemente decente como para mostrar las características de esta especie con las alas abiertas, así que por eso decidí compartirla.
