..Get them convinced - because it's true of course - that what they do makes a difference.
Where ever you find yourself in a position where you are placed in charge of people, the end product is to get the best out of them or according to "bring the humanity" out of the humans.
Humans are dynamic truly and there can be no exact way defined to rightly handle them based on every individual's uniqueness. That being said, humans still have certain traits in common that is linked to how they behave or react to certain situations at certain points in time.

The Melancholic, the sanguine, the choleric, the phlegmatic, the introvert, the extrovert, the social, the anti-social and the bi-polar people, all love to feel valued by the people surrounding them in any immediate environment.
Using the workplace as a case study, as a manager, one is usually charged with motivating, inspiring and leading the staff to achieve company goals. If you can't handle these people effectively, you can't get them to give their best towards achieving the said goals.
Understanding that these people are working to support their families and how their emotions are treated by the company affects their efficiency at work.
- Give them challenges not because you silently hope they will fail, but because you want to improve their ability to rely on their skill set and decision-making ability.
- Give them responsibilities that will make them have a sense of belonging in the organisation.
It's easy to get people or your team emotionally involved; all you have to do is to make them care about what they are doing. That's easy too. You have to get them to see the relevance of what they are doing, how it makes an impact on people's lives and how they provide for the needs of others, thereby reaching out to humanity through the work they are doing. Help them understand that they are contributing to the society through their works and not just to the CEO's pocket.
I hope this helps..
