Often times we say Hive is flying under the radar, at times it might sound like we are being too patriotic of our blockchain but the truth is when compared to other blockchains out there Hive tends to be compatible with most things with some undiscovered yet.
I do not know of any cryptocurrency wallet address out there that is named like we have on Hive, to send funds between users on Hive blockchain all that is required is the username of both sender and receiver instead of the long string of letters and numbers which requires a lot care to avoid sending funds to wrong wallet, knowing cryptocurrency transactions are irreversible.
What if the entire cryptocurrency addresses are like Hive's, all one have to remember is the username which is a lot easier that the long cryptocurrency addresses like Bitcoin, Ethereum etc?
That will go a long way for ease of use, having to deal with private keys in their current form scares off some people.
What is Ethereum Name Service (ENS)?
Ethereum Name Service (ENS) takes the exact same concept as the Domain Name Service (DNS) but adjusts it for the needs of Ethereum users.
It aims to map human-readable names to machine-readable identifiers. In this case, the human-readable name can be something like “cactus.eth,” whereas the machine-readable identifier can be the Ethereum address (or other cryptocurrency addresses, for that matter.)
The use of Ethereum address is going to become a lot better with this possibility. This is a norm on Hive. It is likely we might see other blockchains have this implemented into there wallet address which might become a norm for cryptocurrencies, I am excited about this as it could be a step for ease of use for the masses towards adoption. The more Web 3.0 is designed for ease of use like Web 2.0 the better for adoption.
Registering an Ethereum Name Service domain is pretty straightforward, and all you need to do is have a hot wallet such as MetaMask.
Go to app.ens.domains (the official website for registering an ENS domain), and type in the domain name that you want to register. This will check its availability.

On app.ens.domains I was able to check the availability of my username as seen above joetunex.eth is available. It will cost me an estimate of $11.56 which I didn't proceed, am used to Hive's feeless transaction so that was too expensive for me. Besides I rarely use Ethereum blockchain.
It might interest you to read the entire article here as it comprises of the technicalities, DAO and much more which I didn't cover in this article.
Regardless of the transaction fees, this is a positive move for Ethereum, it might not be too long before we see other blockchains follow suit if possible. As for Hive despite being under the radar it keeps developing.
We owe it to ourselves to make Hive great
