Most people when they heard about volunteering, it's sounding like something too big a deal to meet up with. But then, the truth about volunteering is that it's gonna give you edge above ordinary people and you're open up for endless opportunities with zero connections.
So today I decided to take a moment out of our tight schedule, to put on a volume about why volunteering is important and the benefits involved.
Especially to those my amiable friends aspiring for studies overseas, without a single connection and without your uncle's help, you can divinely be connected through the corridor of volunteering. I'm sure that with this few points of mine, am able to convince you to pick interest in volunteering.
No connection? No help? Nobody?

One thing I have learnt from developed countries like the UK is the power of volunteering.
Volunteering gives you more, faster access in your career.
They start work experience from age 16 — just gaining experience early. I have seen parents bring their kids to my place of work to ask for work experience because they understand how important it is.
Back home in Nigeria, I know jobs can be based on who you know. But if you don’t have connection, create access for yourself.
Go to that ministry, agency, hospital, bank, or company you are interested in and ask to volunteer.
You might not know anyone, but there is no way you will keep showing up once a week and they won’t notice you. When opportunity comes, they will remember you.
Yes, nepotism is real, but not everyone is wicked. Consistency and showing up still counts.
You may hear “we don’t do that here”
don’t stop.
Let them see you are not there to be a burden.
You just want to learn and support.
It counts as experience. When you are applying for jobs tomorrow, you won’t be explaining gaps.
You might be worried about transport, but some people will help you along the way. I remember during my Industrial Attachment in Uyo, some days I was so broke and the Head of Town Planning would still give me transport.
