Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy (Matthew 5: 7)
Do you know this human nature - people want other people to show them mercy, but they themselves don't show mercy to others? And this is a serious issue before when this unmerciful people are children of God, are church people.
The Bible teaches us that God is a God of mercy, and that mercy and truth go before Him. In other words, He is not only a merciful God but deals with us, on the basis or principles of mercy and truth (Psalm 89: 14, Psalm 103: 8, Eph 2: 4, Titus 3: 5). So He requires His people to live and walk in mercy towards others. "What does God requires of us, but to act fairly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with Him (Micah 6: 8 Zech 7: 9). This is His admonition to Israel, which also applies to us. The fact is that all of us have failed in this requirement of God. And the reason is that it's not easy to show mercy to some people, because frankly speaking they don't even deserve it. Period.
But while as it's difficult to show mercy, the exhortation of the word of God is that, God desires mercy, requires His children to love mercy (Matth 9: 13, 12: 7, Hosea 6: 6) and that if we don't extend His mercy to others, we would not be shown mercy either. So the Bible is clear, "those who follow after truth, mercy and righteousness, find life and honour (Prov 21: 21). To be able to live in mercy towards people, we are encouraged and invited to the Throne of Grace to receive God's mercy which will enable us to be merciful God's people. I believe, God's desire is to fill the whole earth with His mercy and grace and truth that results in honour to His name and salvation for all mankind (Psalm 119: 164, Rom 11: 32, 15: 9).
So as you go through the day and live life, may you obtain mercy and so that you can be merciful towards others.
May the Lord not forsake His mercy towards you but rather increase and cause His goodness and mercy to follow all the days of your life so others may experience His salvation in Jesus name. Amen
Shalom, life and grace to you
