In the name of being frugal and healthy at the same time I have decided to make my own bread and buns. To stay away from preservatives and eat more clean I have decided I am going to feed my family the way the pioneers did before the convenience of buying our food at a store. This is why I chose to go this way.
For a science project my kids and I decided to see how many preservatives was actually in a loaf of regular whole wheat bread. We put three pieces of bread separately in an enclosed plastic bag and put them in three separate areas of the house. One in the fridge, one in the cupboard, and the last one in the windowsill. We checked them each week for three weeks. We thought for sure that the one on the windowsill would have mold on it after a week but it didn't. Actually it didn't have mold on it after three weeks. Neither one of the bread slices did. It didn't matter what climate we put it in they were all the same. This alarmed me because after a week of leaving out homemade bread it is moldy. Not just a little but a lot. So that is why I have decided to make my own bread.
