So I am tagging my bro, because he has a partner/married, he is a smart man, and I think he'll like the
rich knowledge I have shared in this post.
I recently saw a list on Twitter of medical debts in various countries. It is interesting that the United States ranks first in terms of people with the most medical debt.
Contrary to the ideas promoted in Hollywood films, where people are treated with the best medical care and attended to by teams of doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals, the enormous cost, debts, and expenses appear to have received little attention.
Of course, it is a working system, and nothing beats it, but the idea of charity sold by these films leads people to live in Dreamland while ignoring the exorbitant cost of care.
The US Is not a Happyily-ever-after
The United States is one of those countries with a no-nonsense Medicare policy, and Americans are used to it, which is why they spend so much money on insurance.
There are countries that enjoy the luxury of cheaper and freer medical care, and it will be difficult for these people to adjust to a place like the United States, especially if they are already accustomed to free or cheaper care and/or live with a medical condition.
Nigeria is one of such places where the cost of medical care is insanely expensive, even though the care is as that of 1980, and not efficient, unfortunately we have a lot of individual health illiterates in Nigeria, and that's because most people are uneducated and hardly proactive when it comes to their health.
The body is a machine that requires care, no matter how healthy you are; however, I understand that the illusion of good health leads people to believe they do not need health care. I guess this is the only benefit of having a chronic or lifelong medical condition: you become a mini doctor or researcher, especially when it comes to finding a cure, staying alive, or even better management.
Financial pregnancy uncertainties
I recently saw a video of a man who took his pregnant wife to the hospital; apparently, they refused her medical care because the man was unable to pay the hospital bill. However, I heard the woman died of preeclampsia, a very serious complication that kills pregnant women.
Preeclampsia does not occur suddenly; if the woman had received antenatal care, the doctor could have detected her high blood pressure in the second or third trimester and likely advised them to opt for a cesarean section before she reached 39 weeks.
Pregnancy is something you have a lot of time to prepare for, and sometimes you have to do your best to avoid some of the complications that may arise, which you can do by being proactive.
To begin, a man whose wife is pregnant should not be playing woody woody; instead, they should arm themselves with information, symptoms, signs, and so on.
Your Penis Could Kill Your Wife
Unfortunately, for some Nigerian men, their natal care ends as soon as they withdraw their penis and their semen has done the job, which is why most women die: a lack of knowledge, financial preparations, and care, as well as a careless husband.
A woman in prolonged labour can die with the child, so even if there were no complications before the due date, complications on the due date can still kill the woman.
This is why people need to be proactive.
I partially blamed the man because he had plenty of time to plan for his wife's care before she became pregnant. I disagree that there is anything like a "mistake pregnancy." You are aware that the 0.1% chance of pregnancy occurs as soon as the semen leaves the penis, regardless of whether she is ovulating.
Some women are fertile, the ovulation shenanigans might not work with them.
You can be lucky it's not pregnancy, but what if pregnancy occurs, and you're financial incapable, what becomes the future of the unborn child and that's if the mother survives the pregnancy phase?
A man must understand that there is a 50% chance that a woman will not have a vaginal delivery, which is why you should always predict a Caesarean section regardless of whether the woman has previously had high blood pressure or not.
She could have pelvic issues, or placenta previa, but many will not know since the woman hardly hardly does any form of pregnancy scan.
I also noticed that this man already had two children; perhaps they were fortunate that the first two pregnancies went smoothly; perhaps a third child will be a lucky charm; however, it would have been preferable for them to simply obtain family planning until they were financially capable of affording a third child, but no! and now the woman is dead.
Conclusion
The world requires more financially literate men and women, particularly in places like Nigeria. Many women are financially irresponsible, and marrying a man who is equally so should be considered haram. Of course, uncertainties occur regardless of how well we prepare, but even in these cases, we can be confident that we have done our best.
Even if you do not have a medical condition, do not assume you are immune; you could still be a dunce when it comes to health education, which could be fatal. Take control, especially if you have the opportunity to do so.
