Beautiful Squamish BC was home to the West Coast Yoga Festival this weekend and did it ever put on a show. The name Squamish translates to Mother Of The Wind in from it's Aboriginal roots and it totally lived up to it's name!
The festival ran throughout the day and had some of the best yoga teachers from the Sea to Sky community leading classes throughout the day. There was a bit of rain and the day had still had a bit of a chill to it for June but there was a great turnout and it looked like everyone had a great time.
I was giving Nikki a hand at her Rock The Feather booth and we really had fun! It was her first festival being back in BC after a year in New Zealand and it all came together really well. Usually the Squamish winds don't start till around 4:00 in the afternoon but they started first thing in the morning and built up speed throughout the day. We were lucky to be able to forage around and find some concrete blocks and paving stones or all of her merchandise would have been blown away.
I brought up some of my awesome Brilliant Lips Treatment and between us we had an excellent time helping lots of great people get ready for summer with some great silk peptide lip products, feather hair extensions and some epic crystal jewellery that Nikki creates under her Rock The Feather label.
The local farmers market ran first thing in the morning and there were other vendors there and of course some vegan food trucks. One of them had a smell coming out of it that was that absolutely mouth watering whatever they are cooking we've got to eat it smell so after things settled down a bit we went out and figured which one it was. Turns out it was the Chickpea Truck and the smell was chickpea fries. We got some and they were absolutely delicious... they looked like mashed up and spiced up formed fries made of chickpeas. If you're at a food truck festival give them a go!
It seemed like everybody had a dog or a baby or both... looks like the crazy Vancouver and Whistler real estate prices have drove all the young families out to Squamish. It was a really great group of people there. The park has an awesome rock sculpture and it was loaded with kids all day long. There's going to be some serious mountain people growing up there!
If you find yourself out here in BC definitely put Squamish on your list of places to visit. It's a beautiful, young hip community with world class attractions and a great energy to it. Just remember to hold on to your hat if you wear one and have a beautiful day!!
