We should never study the word of God just once. We must learn it over and over our lives as Christians. The Bible is food for our soul. Food is necessary for the body every day, and the same is true for the spirit: It requires the Word of God daily. I have come to understand that my heart can become weak, my faith can become dry and my peace can be lost when I do not spend sufficient time in the scriptures. But when I go back to the word of God, strength and hope start again rising in me!
The words of the Bible in Joshua chapter 1, verse 8 are very significant: “This book of the law shall not pass from thy hand; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night.” This scripture demonstrates that learning about God's word is a continuous process. Because God's word is never static; there is always something new to learn, meditate upon it day and night. If I read the same verse many times over, God will still teach me something new.
God's word is our guide in this sinful world. Psalm 119:105 states that 'Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Many people get confused and lost without scripture. As a person, there were times I felt discouraged, tired, but when I read the Bible, I felt comforted and that God was still with me.
Should we ever get tired of reading the word of God? No, because it gives us life, wisdom, correction and peace. The Bible tells us in 2 Timothy 3:16 that ALL Scripture is profitable for doctrine, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. The more that we learn about it, the closer we may get to God. We need the word of God every day of our lives – even until the end.
