As a Christian prayer is one of the most important things in my life. It is not a question of how much one can say to God, but how much one can say to God in an honest and humble manner, and with faith. The right form of prayer is to approach God in a sincere and pure heart. Jesus has taught us how to pray in Matthew 6:6. But you, when you pray, say, “My Father which is in secret, pray in your closet.” This is a reminder for me that prayer is individual. God's calling to me is to speak to Him in a sincere way, and not to people.
I have also become familiar with the fact that prayer is accompanied with faith and obedience. Earlier I would pray only when I had issues, but then I realized there is also a time to thank God, praise God and seek His guidance. Philippians 4:6: “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” I am reminded in this verse to bring all things to God, both happy and sad.
We are created for prayer, too. I think God made us to serve Him, obey Him, to be in a relationship with Him. The whole duty of man: fear God and keep his commandments (Ecclesiastes 12:13). This helps me know that my life isn't all about money, success, or joy. My real goal is to bring glory to God and live God's life.
I remember a time in my life when I didn't know where I was going and what I was doing. I prayed to God every night asking Him to help and comfort me. Gradually I got at ease in my heart, and I started to comprehend that God would not ever abandon His children. This strengthened my faith and has shown me the power of prayer when it is from the heart.
The right way of praying is that of sincerity, humility, faith and obedience to God. Prayer keeps me close to Him and reminds me what I was created for – to love, serve and honor God with my life.
