I sometimes wonder why evil is all around why is there so much evil in the world. I see war, hatred, sickness, poverty, betrayal and pain. Occasionally there are innocent victims and bad guys who appear to be prospering. When I find myself in a situation such as this my heart begins to sink and I ask myself, why would God let this happen? But as I read the Bible, it is beginning to make sense to me that sin brought evil into the world. The book of Genesis tells the story of Adam and Eve, who were created by God but chose to disobey Him, and ever since sin introduced sadness and darkness into the world. The Bible reads: "Sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin...(Romans 5:12)."
I have also seen the fact that many evil things are going on because human beings are far away from God. God has given man free will. He does not compel any one to do good. Some are choosing to hate rather than love, to desire more rather than be kind, to want violence rather than peace. The Bible says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked” (Jeremiah 17:9). This scripture makes me think, if there is no God, the human heart is capable of being corrupted.
Yet, despite all the evil, I have hope in God's promises in this world. “In this world you will have trouble; but take heart!” (Jesus Himself said this). I have said this, because the world hates me (John 16:33). Words of comfort to me for these words remind me that evil will not last forever. God sees everything that happens: every tear, every pain, every injustice. He will take away evil altogether, and bring peace to His children, one day. That God will “wipe every tear from their eyes” is revealed in Revelation 21:4.
So, sometimes when I don't understand every single detail of what is going on around me, I take my faith on God. I have faith that His love is stronger than the darkness in the world.
