War Room is one of those most poignant Christian films I have ever seen. The film delves deeply into the subjects of prayer, faith, marriage, forgiveness and spiritual warfare. It demonstrates the power of prayer when it is sincere and from a heart of trust in God. Emotions and lessons were strong throughout the film and stayed with me afterwards.
The story is about a married couple, Tony and Elizabeth Jordan, whose marriage was slowly deteriorating. They were viewed as being successful and happy on the exterior, but on the inside were angry, prideful, deceptive, resentful and unsettled.
The tension in the house had a negative impact on their daughter as well. I was able to see the pain and frustration in their family when they watched the film. It made me realize, that many may seem OK on the outside but are squabbling on the inside.
Miss Clara was one of the most influential characters in the film, as she instructed Elizabeth in the power of prayer to a very old woman, and a Christian at that. Miss Clara was wise, calm, loving and full of faith. She suggested that she start a “war room” where she could pray and seek God. I very much enjoyed Miss Clara's talk on battling against the enemy rather than against people in anger. The words she spoke were simple, yet very deep.
While I was watching the movie I began to realize that prayer is not something we do lightly or just as a formality. The film revealed prayer as a spiritual weapon that could transform people's hearts, families and peace. Gradually Elizabeth went from being angry and bitter to peaceful and prayerful. She began to pray earnestly for her family, rather than shouting and arguing with her husband. I loved watching her slowly evolve. It was very natural and realistic.
One other aspect that I liked is the emotional link in the film. Some scenes were very touching; some even brought tears to my eyes. The performances by the actors were very good, particularly the performance of Miss Clara by the woman actor. She was convincing and genuine. I could see her love for God in her prayers and talk. The film was not overly reliant on action or special effects. Rather it was more about the message and the feelings of the characters.
The film also imparted valuable lessons of forgiveness and humility. While there were many decisions that Tony made wrong in his marriage, the movie demonstrated that when people listen to God and are corrected, they can change. I liked that the story didn't glide through the process of change. There were challenges, setbacks and weak points. Overall, the film was a positive and hopeful story about recovery.
I personally liked the calmness of many of the scenes of prayer. They made me realize that I should pray more in my life. Throughout these hours of watching, I kept in mind how many people have their own problem but don't really pray about it. The film helped me to rely on God rather than on myself in the toughest of situations.
The cinematography and background music also were good. The peaceful ambiance and the quiet moments gave the film a serene and spiritual touch. Despite the ease with which the movie might have been made, there is a powerful message contained within it that can resonate with many, particularly Christians and families. Parts of the film were a bit slow but the message was important, so it was worth the watch.
Overall, War Room is a great and inspirational film on the subject of faith, prayer and family healing. Not only is it an entertainment but a movie that teaches very important life lessons. I loved watching it as it made me think about my spiritual life and the need to talk to God through prayer. This movie would be recommended for all families, Christians, and anyone in tough times in their life.
I rate this movie a 9/10. It is full of emotion, inspiring, faith-based and full of wisdom. It reminds us that prayer truly is a powerful weapon.
