This extreme heat that we were experiencing , especially at midday, made us thirsty and craved for something that can quench our thirst.
As the heat keep on rising so as our cravings for buko "lamaw". It is Filipino dessert made from scraped young coconut meat in coconut water, with condensed milk and sugar. It's up to you if you are going to put refined sugar ( the white one) or central sugar (the brown one), actually they are just the same in giving a sweet taste. You can add variations like biscuits, peanuts or add some royal softdrinks to it. Everything is up to you, how you are going to customizes it which will approved your taste buds. Then put some ice on it to chill our buko lamaw and ready to serve . It's amazing how simple ingredients can come together to create something so satisfying.
One hot afternoon, as I looked up into the coconut tree beside our house, I was quite amazed of how many young coconut are there , and I said to my self that "they are perfect to make into lamaw".
So I asked one of my brother's friends to climbed it for me , and without hesitation he does my request because he is craving some too. Before when I was young I used to climb a coconut tree, but now my body is heavy, if I climb into it, I cant even make a halfway or even one fourth of its height 🤦😂.
When he dropped all the young coconuts , we quickly chopped them twice , scraped the young coconut and put it in an empty plastic Rebisco container. We put it with some white sugar and a condense milk. This time we didn't put some variations into it, because my cousin forgot to buy some biscuits. He just stated that maybe next time we put some biscuits on our buko lamaw.
They taste the outcome of the process but it lacked sweetness .So we added another condensed milk to it to make it sweeter , which approved our taste buds.Yummy buko lamaw, we can't wait to have a taste of it.
These are all the empty young coconut that we've scraped .
Before we dive into our buko lamaw , we take a picture first as an evidence 😂, kidding aside. In our modern world today, we can't eat our food if we don't take pictures yet, and that what we did. It became the habit of everyone, all around the world maybe, taking pictures before eating is the first thing we do. It's a way to savor any moments and share it with others.
My daughter having a big munch on her buko lamaw. Happy yan 😂.
Our happy faces know that our buko lamaw is ready to eat. Everyone has their cups and glasses , any means that we can pour our buko lamaw. Simple kind of dessert but it's already a luxury for us especially when the person you've been with is your family .
This is not all about food, it is also about creating memories with my family.
