Hello everyone in the hive blockchain. I hope you're all doing well and enjoying the weather wherever you are. Welcome to my blog.
I can't even remember the last time I participated in hive learners' weekly contest. I've not been able to participate and even engage in this lovely community. Thankfully, I'm a little free now so I can come back to the community that trained me.
Life has a way of teaching people lessons. While some learn the hard way, others learn from people’s mistakes (which I see as the easier way). Humans are bound to make mistakes. No one is pretty perfect. Making mistakes is part of life. One common mistake humans make is: judging a book by its cover.
“Don’t judge a book by its cover”. The first time I heard this phrase was when I was in elementary school (class 5 or 4, I can’t really remember). Someone did something and my class teacher said it. I didn’t know what it meant, but what came to my mind was that you shouldn’t judge a book by its front page. I mean, why judge a book by its front page? It could have nice things inside. Now that I remember this, I can’t stop myself from laughing. Well, as i grew older, I discovered the phrase “do not judge a book by its cover” doesn’t mean you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s front page, but you shouldn’t judge people or things by their cover. Looks can be deceiving.
Have I Ever Judged A book By It’s Cover?
Yes! I have. I’m sure most people have also judged wrongly. The truth is: sometimes it is very hard to not judge wrongly. But we shouldn’t make me same mistake twice. We should learn from experiences. About a year ago, I judged someone wrongly. Thankfully, I didn’t cause too much damage and I was able to rectify things.
My Experience
About a year ago (when my school was on strike), I worked as the secretary in a gym. The manager wasn’t always around, and I was always in charge of running things. My boss (the CEO of the gym) is a very nice person-a considerate and understanding man. Even till today, he still loves seeking my opinion on almost everything he does. He had just completed a project (a saloon), and he needed an employer. A skilled barber who would be able to handle things in the salon. About 5 people that came for the job met the requirements. We needed just one barber. I wasn’t around when the screening started, I came into the salon a bit late.
Immediately I saw one of the applicants, I disliked him. He wore crazy jeans, he wore an armless round neck and a gold chain. His hair was tinted (gold). I had nothing with his hair, but I didn’t like the way he looked. Plus, he was too muscular- he looked like he could beat me up in seconds. “This guy is dubious. He is a hooligan”. This was what came to my mind immediately I saw him. I went straight to my boss and alsked him why he hasn’t sent the guy out. I told him the guy didn’t look like someone trustworthy- he looked like someone that would steal his money and ruin the business. For the first time, my boss went against my advise. He employed the guy. Yes, the one that looked like a hooligan.
I was surprised and very angry. I was so angry that I left the salon immediately. The guy sarted working immediately. I came back after some hours to check up on him. Fortunately, he was barbing my boss’ hair when I came in. I was amazed by what saw. I came there to laugh at my boss’ wrong choice, but I ended up blaming myself for judging the man wrongly. My boss didn’t say anything about it, but I learned my lesson not to judge a book by its cover.
The Time I Judged By Looks And Ended Up Being Right
“Don’t judge a book by its cover” the irony in this? What if you end up being right? I’ve come to a conclusion that one should be careful when making decisions. I have judged wrongly, and I’ve also judged people and things by looks and ended up being right.
My Experience
One of my coursemates is a wristwatch lover. He’s the biggest fan of wristwatches (that I know of). Just as I like sneakers, he loves wristwatches. He wears different ones everyday. He loves it when his wristwatch matches his shirt.
On a cold Saturday morning, we both went to a boutique that is close to the school. He couldn’t find the wristwatch he wanted, so went to another place. We went to another shop and he saw the one he wanted. The wristwatch looked too good for the price. I warned him about it, but he was too blinded by its beauty. He wore the wristwatch twice and it started peeling (changing colors). Sadly, he couldn’t return it again.

Don’t judge a book by its cover and at the same time, we should be careful when making decisions.
