Valley of Death, Namibia
Sometime there was a river through the Valley of the Dead in Namibia, along which was a dense forest. Gradually, however, the river has dried up, leaving behind an arid and lifeless area. Death Valley has become the highest sand dune in the world and an area where there are only traces of the glittering forests that once existed.
The area was called the Death Valley when specialists realized they had to deal with a real tree cemetery. The trees have practically mummified, the conditions not allowing them to decompose so the trees have been petrified.
Tianzi Mountain | China
Incredibly tall and thin, the peaks of Tianzi Mountain in China are a great curiosity of the world. No one realizes how these have not yet descended, as they seem to maintain balance as a ballerina on the peaks. Mount Tianzi, in Hunan Province, was formed underwater, 380 million years ago, and is the source of inspiration for James Cameron's "Avatar" movie.
The water made its way through the sand and only the tall, stone peaks remained. There are about 3,000 such towers, some with heights of up to 1,500 meters.
Chocolate Hills, Philippines
The Chocolate Hills in the Philippines resemble with some pralines. Others think it looks like a huge mound of marsh. They are among the strangest and rare geological formations. Chocolate Hills are located on Bohol Island, the tenth largest in the Philippines, on an area of nearly 50 square kilometers.
There are 1,268 hills, with heights between 35 and 150 meters. Hills were formed 2.5 billion years ago and there are several theories. Some saying the formation of these hills are based on tectonic activity. According to a popular legend, the hills formed after a battle between two giants. They were throwing stones and sand into each other, and the remaining hills represent the misery resulting from that battle.
