I don’t know when the idea of lucky cat became popular in Thailand. But this belief must have been imported into Thailand for at least twenty years. We can observe at least one lucky cat waving its hand to customers either on the table or shelf in many shops in Bangkok. I never thought of buying one for myself. Several years ago, my friend from Singapore came to visit Bangkok so I took him on a tour of China Town. As a thanking present, he bought me a lucky cat and it is still sitting on my book shelf today. Whenever the battery runs out, I have to get a new replacement. I am afraid if I don’t put in a new battery, the good luck may stop flowing into the house!
แมวนำโชค หรือ แมวกวัก เป็นความเชื่อมาจากประเทศญี่ปุ่น ซึ่งปัจจุบันคนไทยก็รับความเชื่อนี้เข้ามาพอๆกันกับเรื่องนางกวักนำโชค ดังจะเห็นได้ว่าร้านค้าต่างๆมักจะมีแมวกวักอย่างน้อยหนึ่งตัว นั่งบนชั้นหรือโต๊ะ ขนาดเพื่อนมาเที่ยวจากประเทศสิงคโปร์ยังซื้อให้เป็นการตอบแทนการนำเที่ยวกรุงเทพ และย่านเยาวราช เวลาถ่านหมดต้องหาถ่านใหม่มาใส่ให้แมว เพราะเกรงว่าโชคดีจะหยุดไหลเข้าบ้าน!
