On this day, last year, I joined Steemit, the social media disruptor powered by the steem blockchain. Drawn to it by the decentralised aspect of it, a token driven economy and the opportunity to make some passive income for voicing my opinion. The last bit wasn't easy but the whole year was a learning experience, made even better by the evolution of the blockchain itself.
So what happened? Well I went from rep 25 to 65 (almost 66) and earned nearly 2500 SP during the year (2485 to be precise and all earned through posts, comments and contests). Powered UP everything and delegated a lot of it, as much as I thought prudent.
Getting to 65 rep was not that tough but the journey from 65 to 66 has been painstakingly slow. Became a minnow, now moving towards become a dolphin, which is still far far away but I have loved the effort that has gone into organically increasing both rep and SP. I can always buy and power up but that game is easy and not fulfilling at all.
How was it all done? Well frankly it was all thanks to some dapps that took me away from my usual activity of posting about pics, contests etc. - steemhunt & actifit. Additionally a move away from UK to India has landed me in a job that gives me much less time to invest on steemit. But I have done nearly 300 hunts on sh and well earned a fair amount of hunt in the process. Actifit, well I have posted almost everyday and should be averaging 10k a day. So for 6 months, 1.8 million steps posted :) doesn't mean much but the stat looks fascinating. The delegation and posting has also helped me earn actifit tokens, a fairly decent amount. (Both are less than 6 figure).
While I have achieved much in the year gone by, I am more excited about things to come during the next year. My next year will see the launch of SMT protocol, more IEOs for steem based dapps, increased awareness about steem and hopefully an actual increase in adoption not just for money but for actual use case. Steem is massively undervalued for its potential. If it had been an regular startup, well, it may have commanded higher valuation. Or may be if it was a regular company, it would not have the 'x' factor of being a decentralised social media platform.
I actually haven't mentioned everything that will drive more users and companies to steem. I know a lot of smart people are working towards that. But for now, I am happy to have bee here for a year, achieved more than what I thought i could, honored to have been part of two very promising dapps and looking forward to the next year!
Cheers!
