Hello Hivers
Common Grackle
Here is my entry for the Show Me A Photo Contest Round 13.
Thanks to for sponsoring the contest!
Often seen in neighbourhoods, feeding on lawns or bird feeders. They like to forage in large flocks and can decimate farmers fields of corn. In Winter the flock can grow to over a million individuals......
On an interesting note, they will land on the ground and spread their wings allowing ants to climb on them, ants secrete formic acid and it is believed this helps rid the bird of parasites.
Thanks to Cornell Lab of Ornithology for the map.
