When learning new skills, it is easy to get discouraged and frustrated. Here are a couple reasons why you may find learning new skills to be a challenge.
#1. Feeling overwhelmed
When you are learning something new for the first time, it can be difficult to process. The more you dive into what you are learning, the more confusing it gets. You eventually get so discouraged and confused that you decide to give up.
Instead of trying to master everything at once, just focus on understanding a small portion. Better learning a little than nothing at all.
#2. Facing Failure
When you are first learning to do anything, such a learning how to ride a bike, you will probably fail a lot of times. Failing constantly can make you feel bad about yourself. You might be thinking, “Why can’t I get this? Why is this so hard?”
You need to change your mentality. Every mistake made is a lesson. Every lesson learned brings you one step closer to understanding and achieving your goal.
#3. Feeling uncertain
Many of us don’t like the feeling of uncertainty. It may make you feel vulnerable or give you anxiety, not feeling in complete control. When you first learn something new, everything is uncertain.
In the face of uncertainty, find the courage to push past your insecurities and make it a safe place to explore. You could be learning a language and be butchering it. Instead of getting upset, have fun with it. So what, if you sound like a fool… just embrace it! Have FUN!
