Nazaré is a charming old fishing village located South of Portugal.
Nowadays, it is best known for its giant waves which attract the best surfers in the world, but have also found traditions that deserve our attention.
Today, I am telling you about a particular experience not to be missed.
On the edge of the beach, you can find the famous sun-dried fish of Nazaré which sell for a few euros and which are succulent.
There is something for all tastes; from the smallest to the largest, not to mention the octopus.
All fish can be dried this way and it is easy to eat them even if you don't have a kitchen available.
You can grill them or rehydrate them in water or eat them as is, you choose, but I imagine that also depends on the chosen fish, it is therefore necessary to inquire on the spot.
We asked for help from this lady and she advised us well as they were delicious.
The process of preparing these fish is very simple.
The fish are cleaned and then salted before being exposed to the sun for several days on old fishing nets.
Simple and efficient !
This approach has the primary purpose of increasing the shelf life of the fish, but it is also very good for health.
Indeed, this way of preparing the fish keeps a very high protein level in addition to giving it a more distinct taste which is pleasant for the taste buds.
I hope I made you want to try !
