¡Hola, comunidad de Hive Gaming! De vuelta por acá despuĂ©s de un largo tiempo sin pasar a compartir con ustedes. A veces el dĂa a dĂa nos absorbe, pero la pasiĂłn por los videojuegos nunca se va, todos tenemos un sitio seguro al que ir cuando estamos agotados del dĂa a dĂa en el trabajo y las responsabilidades, para mi, los videojuegos es mi sitio seguro y de descanso. Hoy finalmente me animĂ© a grabar, sentarme a jugar y traerles un gameplay de un proyecto que me tenĂa bastante intrigado y con ganas de probar.
Para este regreso no querĂa traer un juego convencional. Si, me gustan muchĂsimo los juegos retro y toda esa estĂ©tica que me traiga nostalgia, asĂ que querĂa hoy probar algo diferente, querĂa algo que me pusiera a prueba, que me sacara de mi zona de confort. Por eso, decidĂ adentrarme en el fascinante mundo de los Hack-Roms, especĂficamente uno basado en una de las mayores obras maestras de la Nintendo 64: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. El tĂtulo de este hack rom se llama Ultimate Trial, y crĂ©anme que si hace honor a su nombre, ya que en español se titularia ''La Prueba Definitiva''.
Hello, Hive Gaming community! I’m back here after a long time without stopping by to share with you all. Sometimes daily life gets in the way, but the passion for video games never fades. We all have a safe haven to turn to when we’re worn out from the daily grind of work and responsibilities—for me, video games are my safe haven and place of respite. Today I finally decided to record a session, sit down to play, and bring you some gameplay from a project that had me pretty intrigued and eager to try out.
For this comeback, I didn’t want to bring a conventional game. Yes, I really love retro games and all that nostalgic aesthetic, so today I wanted to try something different—something that would challenge me and push me out of my comfort zone. That’s why I decided to dive into the fascinating world of Hack-Roms, specifically one based on one of the greatest masterpieces of the Nintendo 64: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The title of this hack ROM is called Ultimate Trial, and believe me, it lives up to its name—in Spanish, it would be titled “The Ultimate Trial.”
Para los que quizás no estén tan familiarizados con el término ''HACK ROM'' este es una versión modificada de un juego original creada por fanáticos. Los desarrolladores independientes toman el motor gráfico, las mecánicas y los recursos del juego base y alteran los mapas, la dificultad, la historia o los acertijos para ofrecer una experiencia completamente nueva. Es, esencialmente, un juego nuevo construido sobre los cimientos de un clásico.
Ocarina of Time es un juego que me sĂ© casi de memoria, y precisamente por eso elegĂ Ultimate Trial. QuerĂa romper con esa familiaridad y volver a sentir la incertidumbre y la emociĂłn de no saber quĂ© hay en la siguiente esquina.
For those who may not be familiar with the term “HACK ROM,” it refers to a modified version of an original game created by fans. Independent developers take the graphics engine, mechanics, and assets from the base game and alter the maps, difficulty, story, or puzzles to offer a completely new experience. It is, essentially, a new game built on the foundation of a classic.
Ocarina of Time is a game I know almost by heart, and that’s precisely why I chose Ultimate Trial. I wanted to break away from that familiarity and feel the uncertainty and excitement of not knowing what lies around the next corner.
Desde los primeros minutos de juego, Ultimate Trial te deja claro que no ha venido a tomarte de la mano. Si el juego original de Nintendo 64 tenĂa una curva de dificultad amigable y progresiva, este mod asume que ya eres un veterano de Hyrule y te lanza directo a los lobos.
En el video que les comparto hoy, van a poder ver mis primeros pasos (y mis primeras muertes, para quĂ© mentirles) en este exigente entorno. A pesar de que conozco muy bien el juego original, esta versiĂłn me resulto muy desafiante, enemigos que aparecen sorpresivamente, no poder recuperar corazones en plena partida de combate, sin duda alguna es todo un desafĂo.
From the very first minutes of gameplay, Ultimate Trial makes it clear that it’s not here to hold your hand. While the original Nintendo 64 game had a gentle, gradual difficulty curve, this mod assumes you’re already a Hyrule veteran and throws you right into the deep end.
In the video I’m sharing with you today, you’ll get to see my first steps (and my first deaths, why lie to you?) in this demanding environment. Even though I know the original game very well, I found this version to be very challenging—enemies that appear out of nowhere, not being able to recover hearts in the middle of combat—it’s definitely a real challenge.
Visualmente, el juego mantiene toda la esencia de la Nintendo 64, lo cual me encanta porque la atmósfera nostálgica sigue intacta, pero la jugabilidad se siente fresca, tensa y sumamente adictiva.

Visually, the game captures the essence of the Nintendo 64, which I love because the nostalgic atmosphere remains intact, but the gameplay feels fresh, intense, and incredibly addictive.
