Sometimes the state of the world overwhelms, echoing in the microcosm of my mind and intensifying the emotions that come as I do my best to navigate life.
Words help. And thank Goddess for music. And yoga.
This photo was taken by Nat Anfield at a yoga class I taught many moons ago.
This is a powerful image, to me, of people standing tall on their own, balancing as best they can yet supporting each other at the same time. This is the hope I continue to hold for the world, that we can do this as a human race. But sometimes I get frustrated, because it seems like we still have such a long way to go.
The first bit of this poem makes generalizations that are far too broad, but these are the words that surfaced with a wave of sadness and anger that needed to be expressed.
A Long Way to Go
The English made slaves of the Scots,
Americans made slaves of the blacks,
Consumerism makes slaves of us all.
We’re so divided—need to stop looking back.
In too many corners of the world
Women are still enslaved to men.
How many of us are enslaved to the grind,
Striving over and over again?
Heart heavy, I dream this dream.
Every man for himself doesn’t work.
Let the women rise, let the children shine,
Let oppression die by the dirk.
It doesn’t have to be this way,
We could choose a different path.
Take care of each other, share what we have,
Build bridges of kindness, share laughs.
There are places where it’s different, I know,
But we’ve got a long, long way to go.

Riding the waves.
I’m hanging on to my surfboard over here, riding the waves of emotion that come, doing my best. This being human thing isn’t as easy as it looks. ;)
Thanks very much for reading.
