You know those moments where you feel like you get a fresh start, where you have a surge of hope for yourself, and maybe even for humanity as a whole?
That hope is magic, and it’s the essence of this song.
I post a lot of songs about heartbreak, and struggle, and disillusionment, using the power of music to heal, but sometimes a sweet moment gets captured in lyrics and rhythm as well. ;)
I did quite a few takes of this song last night. I got a decent video with my six-string, all dressed up nice and with the room behind me more organized, then—after it was uploaded—I decided I didn't like the way the 6-string sounded.
By that time, I was in my PJs and up way past my bedtime, but I picked up the 12-string and did this take. The camera angle isn't as good, and the room is a mess, but it sounds good, and reflects the reality of my often-messy life. ;-)
Forward We Go – Lyrics (by Katrina Ariel)
Rollin’ with these epic waves
And “oh I’m not so sure” days,
And oh my God I’m glad it’s you.
Rollin’ with these wondrous dreams
Never mind the uncertainties
It’s just the dance we do.
Finding freedom in release
And peaceful journeys in the trees…
There ain’t no more turning back
No more such thing as guilt or lack.
Never again
Forward we go (x 2)
Downward we grow
Inward we glow
Upward we grow
Outward we glow
Never again
Forward we go
Going back to the land
Going back hand in hand
To where we belong
Gonna teach each other
Gonna love our mother
Just you be you and I be me
And we be family
Like we’ve always belonged
Never again
Forward we go
Rollin’ with these epic waves
And “oh I’m not so sure” days,
And oh my God I’m glad it’s you.

Doing #openmic and #artofmusic and otherwise sharing my music on the blockchain and on discord, it feels like I’ve stepped into a tribe.
After spending the first few years of my kids’ lives with my guitars forgotten, I’m playing and singing every day, and it’s wonderful! You who comment and encourage me, you who play and inspire me, you are part of this journey.
Thank you for listening!
Whatever happens, keep singing your song!
