Some beautiful Oregon Juncos have been visiting our backyard. At first glance, they can seem drab and plain, and they do seem to like grubbing around on the lawn which makes it hard to get an attractive photo.
I find the best way to photograph them is to catch them perched upon a branch or a fence, and try to get some distance between the bird and the background.
Below: one of my favourite shots. A male Oregon Junco, (Junco hyemalis).
