I am an EXTREMELY wealthy Unicorn hunter.
I never told you this before, but I'm stinking rich. I'm Bond-villain rich. Private-island-with-skull-shaped-volcano rich. I am the Bruce Wayne of unicorn hunters!
I'll spare you the story of the first sixty years of my search when nothing much really happened. I'm sure it appeared as though I was busy growing up, going to school, getting married, raising a family. Earning a billion dollars... the usual stuff. But no unicorn, soooo.... all in all, I'd have to sum up those early years as pretty much "Meh." All that is about to change!
the red phone rings...
I keep a special phone just for this. It's red for no other reason than to look cool. It connects me with my vast worldwide network of informants and unicorn hunters. A new report arrives... a sighting. It's close!
I keep a suitcase packed at all times.
I travel the world following up on unicorn sightings and naturally I need to move fast, so my bags are always packed. I keep a small plane gassed up and waiting, just to get me to the big plane quickly! I also keep a fleet of small ninety-foot yachts in ports around the world just in case I need to reach a destination by sea... or go fishing. You can't be too prepared!
At first light, I'm already gone!
The float plane gets me to Vancouver in a half hour where I throw my bags aboard yacht #14-a. (I'm busy... I don't have time to give them all proper names...) I'm going take the yacht to where the unicorn was sighted, just because the hotels there are crappy, and I prefer to live in a certain, style shall we say?
The good ship "14-a" will be my temporary headquarters while away on this expedition. Just me and a crew of eleven, I'm travelling fast and light!
Our journey so far...
I should have mentioned, the unicorn has been spotted right here on Vancouver Island in the small town of Coombs. Apparently, it's in a fenced enclosure and will be safe overnight. Here's where we are now:
The red line shows the float plane trip to Vancouver. The green line shows the voyage of the #14-a to Parksville, a short distance from Coombs. Yes, I could have gotten there directly in the plane but I'm not staying in some crummy 4-star hotel. That's why I brought the yacht, which will also keep my exotic camera gear safe.
Speaking of camera gear...
What's #MarketFriday by without some actual shopping? I decided to call Nikon's advanced research labs and have a new lens dropped off for me. I had it custom ordered and I think it will be perfect for the unicorn photoshoot. The spec's? A custom designed 10-10,000 mm lens, f/0.4, all exotic glass. VR of course. It was a little pricey but it's amazing how fast they were able to deliver when I threw down some serious cash!
As the sun sets in Parksville a couple watches the Nikon special delivery ship arrive with my new lens. Nikon warned me the lens would be big... looks like I'm going to need a larger tripod!
