There has been talks about going more zen and it's great seeing the dev-community steering the conversation towards simplicity for both user experience and the blockchain itself. The roadmap was a good indication too. That's what beta testing is all about, especially for a new tech such as this. I think ease-of-use and ease-of-comprehension are ultimately the first steps to providing value for mainstream adoption.
