We began my family vacation in London, prior to heading to Ibiza and capping off this trip back to London, before we head back to the US of A. We did a quick tour of Windsor Castle, and explored the outside grounds of St Georges Chapel. It is a beautiful building, in the medieval Gothic style. Alas, it was a Sunday tour, and we could not access the inside due to regular service. I spied the roof, and see them!! The Queen’s Beasts!! Or actually, some of these are the King’s Beasts, related to King Henry and his third wife, Jane Seymour. The Queen adopted some of them, not all. There are supposedly 76 of them on the roof, each one on their own pinnacle. I did not count them all.
The higher ones are not holding their historical crests but rather a spear. These spears actually act as a lightning conductors. The lower ones hold their heraldic crests.
A closer look at the Lion of England.
There are others that I have not yet seen before, but will find out more.
