A siege can be said to be the surrounding or blockading of a thing or place by armed forces in order to take or capture it. It can also be defined as a period of struggle or difficulty faced by a person or a nation.
These forces could be physical or spiritual and could cause great distress to a person or nation that is being sieged.
Many Christians today are being sieged in various ways, sickness, barrenness, poverty, divorce threat among others.
Siege can be caused by many factors such as ignorance, negligence, hunger, dispute between parties, insecurity and sin. No matter the cause of siege, it causes discomfort, fear and havoc on the sieged, hence the need to take action.
Some of the actions we need to take include:
■Cry out for help: The woman in 2 kings 6:26 did not stomach her trouble, rather she cried out to the king;
2 Kings 6:26 And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.
Whenever we are in a state of discomfort, it is essential that we cry out to those who will help us and not those who will compound our problems. That woman did well by crying to the king, knowing that he was at the helms of affairs.
■Rely on God’s help: Though it has earlier been said that we should cry out for help. However, we must be aware that if God does not help us, we are helpless. When the woman went to the king for help, the king, knowing his limitation responded;
2 Kings 6:27 And he said, If the LORD do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress?
The king’s words may seem quite unfriendly and his language fretful; however, he was being blunt and sincere.
■Repent of our sins: Peradventure sin has caused siege upon our lives, we need to repent of our sins of complacency, prayerlessness, lukewarm attitude, schisms etc, and ask God for mercy, God will surely forgive us if we repent genuinely.
■Pray to God: The Bible says;
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Our sincere prayer to God will go a long way in bringing a permanent end to siege
■Believe the siege will be broken: One of the reasons why sometimes our problems persist is that we doubt God’s ability to put a permanent end to our troubles. We should not doubt God, for unbelief displeases God and deprives us of God’s favour. The officer to the king disbelieve the word of prophesy he paid for it. When the prophecy came to fulfilment, he did not benefit from it. Let us not at any time doubt God’s mighty power.
As we do these, God will surely intervene and the siege shall be broken because God has a thousand and one ways of helping his beloved children. Yours will not be an exception. The siege over your life is over and you will laugh at last. At night, striking terror fell on the camp of the besieger as the lord caused them to hear a noise of chariots and horses.
2 Kings 7:6-7 For the LORD had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us. Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.
Whether the noise was made in the air or by ministering angels, nobody knows. But the noise drove the enemies away. God’s thoughts are not our thoughts, neither his ways our ways.
Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
Just as it was for the besieger in our text of consideration (2 Kings 7:6-7). So also, I pray that our enemies shall hear a noise and they shall flee. Our time of plenty is here, our miracles and various breakthroughs are here in Jesus name, Amen. Do not doubt; believe God. Our Siege is broken and we will live to see the miracle. God bless you abundantly.
