I've been wanting to try this for many many years but the thought of the fish dying while under my care has always put me off. The Covid Pandemic Lockdowns made me look into this hobby and after a few months of intensive research, I was ready.
I thought everyone started off having goldfish in a round bowl but I now know better. I've come to love the GUPPY without even knowing they existed.
Before purchasing anything I spent a few hours wandering around Animates Store looking at the live fish, both fake and live plants, basically everything to do with the hobby. It was time to return home and compile a list of the initial items I needed to buy. Before leaving the store I purchased a Basic 65 Litre glass fish tank.
There really weren't too many items to purchase. Sponge filter, air pump, heater, some gravel, air hose kit, a gravel cleaner. I also bought a small bottle of API Tap Water Conditioner so I can start the Nitrogen cycle with the purchase of the fish in 2 weeks' time.
So I had this tank running like this for 2 weeks and didn't see the need to add API Quick Start. During this time I went online and decided to try live plants.
To be honest, I wasn't impressed with the Java Ferns but I'm going to try and improve their condition in my new tank. I bought API Leaf Zone to hopefully restore these plants.
After the live plants were "loosely" installed, I went back to Animates and bought my very 1st live fish, 3 Male GUPPIES. I also purchased some tropical fish flakes and will further look into their diet requirements to bring out more colours.
As for the lighting, I'm going to make it DIY because I wish to make an all-in-one aquarium controller with an Arduino to do various functions. Another HIVE project in the works.
It has been a week since the fish were added, such a wholesome feeling just to sit and watch them hours on end. After doing a 50% water change my confidence just kept on climbing up, I can do this!
