2 Posts in a single day, neither of them reporting good news..?! As is the tradition I guess? For literally years now I've been running a dedicated HIVE witness server based out of Sweden to produce blocks and secure (used in loose terms) the HIVE Blockchain. At some points in my witness career it yielded a somewhat tidy monthly profit and was able to pay for itself.
As of a few days ago my server is suspended and my witness isn't online. Will try and figure out how I can get the invoice paid and get my server and witness back online. Cash is tight and if I can afford to pay out of pocket I will. If you want to move your witness votes to someone else deserving then go for it, I'll make a post when I have it back online.
Given the hiatus I took from HIVE for a long while there my witness rank dropped off, which is fine.. Even as low as rank #70 I was still just able to offset the cost of the server (~$40 USD a month) when the price of HIVE was still up over $0.10 USD a pop.

However given the current HIVE price combined with my low witness ranking I've ended up falling behind on my server dues. Even at full power down I'm only able to throw around $4 (if I'm lucky) a week at the bill which averages just over $10 a week.. Which sucks but it is what it is. Not sure what to do honestly.

Currently my IRL income is pretty damn limited, no ones fault there but my own for sure.. But given the circumstance all of my income is going towards rent, medication and food. Trying to save up is damn near impossible and while I'd love to be able to find more paid work locally living outside of town without a vehicle kind of fucks me for that.. Leaving me with remote code work, which has also almost dried up given the advent of LLMs becoming ever so slightly less shit and the average person being able to vibe code the odd jobs I'd been able to charge a small fee to complete prior.
I've still got a few HIVE centric applications that I'm finishing. Workstation PC is on the fritz and frankly it doesn't owe me anything but the system instability caused by the motherboard makes working on anything a gamble. Managed to get it running here tonight but the plan is to back up everything I can onto a 3TB HDD I have in hopes of saving all important data and projects incase it goes completely tits up and blows the SSDs and NVME drives all to hell with it.
Lucky I've got an ancient Lenovo Thinkpad (Education Edition) from 2014 that runs mostly stable so I'm not completely cut off from being able to access the net and do coding task.. But this poor laptop was underpowered for it's era and now can only JUST keep up with modern browsers, and almost run Traktor DJ without fucking up! Glad to have it even though it's aged and worn.
In closing, I'll try and calculate my budget here and if possible move funds into crypto in order to pay my invoice. Waiting on an email back from the gents at privex to see if my server data is gone or not..
God I hope not, but if it is... then it is what it is.
