What's up, Steemit, it's been a minute.
Today almost makes a week since my last post, what can I say, it's been a crazy weekend here in Detroit followed up by Memorial day and a lot of catching up. But here I am with another Dutch Baby recipe :).
This time I made it using whole wheat flour and actually baked the fruit instead of adding some as toppings. Super tasty, pour over some honey or maple syrup and there you have it, perfect breakfast!
Ingredients:
- 2 eggs;
- 1/2 cup whole wheat flour;
- 1/2 cup milk;
- 1-2 tablespoon sugar;
- a pinch of salt;
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract.
For the apple-cinnamon filling:
- 1 apple;
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon;
- a pinch of nutmeg;
- 1 table spoon brown sugar;
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice;
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil or butter.
Directions:
Place all of the ingredients except for the apple filling ones in a mixing bowl and whisk into a smooth mixture. Make sure there are no lumps in the batter. You can also combine the ingredients in a blender for a silkier texture. Set aside.
You can either use a cast iron skillet or any other type of oven proof dish.
Preheat your oven to 400 F.
Wash and peel your apple, slice it, add lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Heat coconut oil or butter and cook the apples for approximately a minute. Pour the batter over the apples. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown.
Top this beautiful Dutch Baby with confectioner's sugar and cinnamon. Serve immediately with your favorite warm drinks. I'd say hot cocoa would compliment this dish in every way possible, also chai tea for that extra spicy flavor. Buuut, if you're being too hot these summer days, a scoop of ice cream would work just fine! If I had to pick I would go for lemon flavor :).
