La Habana, capital de Cuba, es una ciudad hermosa y llena de contrastes. Posee calles muy emblemáticas, entre ellas, la renombradísima y popular calle 23. Caminar por la calle 23, en pleno corazón del Vedado habanero, es como meterse en una película donde cada esquina tiene su propio guión. Es una avenida que nunca duerme, siempre está llena de movimiento, voces, colores y esa mezcla de lo antiguo con lo moderno que caracteriza a la capital. Aunque en los ultimos tiempos las calles no están tan pobladas como en otras épocas.

Havana, the capital of Cuba, is a beautiful city full of contrasts. It has many emblematic streets, among them the renowned and popular 23rd Street. Walking along 23rd Street, right in the heart of Havana's Vedado district, is like stepping into a movie where every corner has its own script. It's an avenue that never sleeps — always full of movement, voices, colors, and that mix of old and new that characterizes the capital. Although lately the streets aren't as crowded as they used to be.

La calle 23 comienza desde el Malecón, allí el mar se convierte en telón de fondo donde se reflejan los sueños y anhelos de los ciudadanos. Apenas das unos pasos por la rampa y ya sientes la vibra de la ciudad, los carros clásicos que parecen salidos de un museo rodante, que pitan como si fueran parte de una banda sonora, y la gente que va y viene con un ritmo apurado que contagia. Es imposible no dejarse llevar por esa energía.

23rd Street begins at the Malecón, where the sea becomes a backdrop reflecting the dreams and hopes of its citizens. Just a few steps up the ramp and you already feel the city's vibe: classic cars that look like they've driven out of a rolling museum, honking as if part of a soundtrack, and people coming and going at a hurried pace that’s contagious. It's impossible not to get swept up in that energy.

Uno de los puntos más icónicos es la intersección con la calle L, donde se levanta el cine Yara. Ese edificio, con su fachada modernista, es un símbolo del Vedado. Frente a él, la vida se concentra, jóvenes que se reúnen para conversar, parejas que esperan la próxima función, vendedores de maní y de rositas de maíz que completan la escena. Es como un pequeño epicentro cultural que nunca pierde su encanto.

One of the most iconic spots is the intersection with L Street, where the Yara Cinema stands. That building, with its modernist facade, is a symbol of Vedado. In front of it, life congregates — young people gathering to chat, couples waiting for the next show, peanut and popcorn vendors completing the scene. It's like a small cultural epicenter that never loses its charm.

El paseo se vuelve aún más interesante cuando llegas cerca de la heladería Coppelia. Ese lugar es casi un mito nacional, colas interminables, conversaciones cruzadas y el sabor del helado que, aunque cambie según la disponibilidad, siempre sabe a infancia y a tradición. Sentarse allí, bajo los árboles, es parte del ritual de caminar por la calle 23.

The stroll becomes even more interesting when you get near the Coppelia ice cream parlor. That place is almost a national myth — endless lines, overlapping conversations, and the taste of ice cream that, even if it changes depending on availability, always tastes like childhood and tradition. Sitting there, under the trees, is part of the ritual of walking along 23rd Street.

Lo bonito de esta avenida es que no necesitas un plan para disfrutarla. Basta con dejarte llevar, mirar alrededor y sentir cómo la ciudad respira. Adoro caminar por la calle 23, un espacio donde se mezclan la cotidianidad y la historia, donde cada paso te conecta con la esencia habanera. Es un paseo que me dice que La Habana no es solo un lugar, sino una experiencia que se vive con todos los sentidos y así lo siento. Una de las últimas atracciones de la calle 23 es el nuevo hotel llamado cariñosamente la Torre K.

The beauty of this avenue is that you don't need a plan to enjoy it. Just let yourself go, look around, and feel how the city breathes. I love walking along 23rd Street, a space where everyday life and history blend, where every step connects you to Havana's essence. It's a walk that tells me Havana is not just a place, but an experience lived with all the senses — and that's how I feel it. One of the latest attractions on 23rd Street is the new hotel affectionately called "La Torre K."

A medida que avanzas por la avenida, aparecen cafeterías y restaurantes que mezclan lo tradicional con lo contemporáneo. Puedes encontrarte con un café donde sirven un buen expreso cubano, fuerte y aromático, o con un sitio más moderno que ofrece pizzas, perros calientes y hamburguesas. Esa diversidad es parte de lo que hace especial a la 23, es un lugar donde conviven distintas épocas y estilos.

As you move along the avenue, cafés and restaurants appear, mixing the traditional with the contemporary. You might find a coffee shop serving a good Cuban espresso — strong and aromatic — or a more modern spot offering pizzas, hot dogs, and hamburgers. That diversity is part of what makes 23rd Street special; it's a place where different eras and styles coexist.

La arquitectura también merece su propio capítulo. Desde mansiones de principios del siglo XX, con balcones y vitrales, hasta edificios más funcionales de la época soviética, esta calle es un catálogo vivo de la historia urbana de La Habana. Cada fachada cuenta una historia, y si te detienes a mirar, descubres detalles sorprendentes.

The architecture also deserves its own chapter. From early 20th-century mansions with balconies and stained glass to more functional buildings from the Soviet era, this street is a living catalog of Havana's urban history. Every facade tells a story, and if you stop to look, you discover surprising details.

Caminar por la calle 23 del Vedado es como abrir un libro de historias urbanas que nunca se termina. Aqui hay vavios sitios muy conocidos por los habaneros y cubanos en general. Así podemos ver la Sala Fresa y Chocolate, la Cafetería de 23 y 12, el Restaurante Italiano Cinecitta y si miras hacia la calle 12 veras la majestuosidad de la entrada del cementerio de Colón.

Walking along 23rd Street in Vedado is like opening a never-ending book of urban tales. There are many well-known spots for Havanans and Cubans in general. So we can see the "Fresa y Chocolate" hall, the café at 23rd and 12th, the Italian restaurant Cinecittà, and if you look toward 12th Street, you'll see the majestic entrance of the Colón Cemetery.

En 23 siempre hay algo nuevo que descubrir, alguien con quien cruzar una sonrisa, un detalle que te sorprende. Eso sí, para esta larga caminata es recomendable una sombrilla y un buen desayuno o merienda porque son unos cuantos kilómetros. Pero valió la pena porque luego de este recorrido me quedé con esa maravillosa sensación de haber visto y admirado a la más popular y de haber sido parte del corazón palpitante de La Habana.

On 23rd, there's always something new to discover, someone to share a smile with, a detail that surprises you. That said, for this long walk, it's advisable to bring an umbrella and a good breakfast or snack, because it's quite a few kilometers. But it was worth it, because after this journey I was left with that wonderful feeling of having seen and admired the most popular street and having been part of Havana's beating heart.
