Today I feature this very nice looking coin way back in the year 1882. The 50 Centavos - Alfonso XII, also known as the Alfonso coins, belong to the 1880 series of coins that also include coins which have denominations of 10 centavos, 20 centavos, 50 centavos and 4 pesos.
Spaniards ruled the Philippines for over 300 years. Together with their culture, the Spanish minted coins to be used in their colonies in that time period.

This coin is the newest in my coin-hunting hobby. It has a very nice yellow/gold toning. It is ungraded but, as far as I can tell, it should be in lower AU (Almost Uncirculated) detail. It is a silver coin which collectors really love because it also has bullion value. If someone could get a silver coin, lower or slightly higher than its current silver value, then it would be a great deal! This adds up to my silver coin collection and this is by far the oldest dated coin that I have.
As far as valuing this coin depends on rarity, quality and if it is graded (which proves its authenticity). The years 1880 and 1884 will be the rarest dates. On the local market, ungraded coins like this exchange hands with values ranging from $25 up to $150 and can go as high as $1000 for graded and in MS (Mint State) condition in US auctions.
