Okay, travel tip #5, here we go!
These next travel-tip-posts will be about another beautiful city in Norway called Trondheim.
The first thing you have to do when visiting Trondheim, is to see Nidaros Cathedral. It's going to take your breath away. I've seen it once before, but I didn't appreciate it as much as I did now. It's absolutely amazing!
The cathedral was built from 1070 to 1300 over the burial site of Saint Olav. He was the king of Norway in the 11th century.
After the Protestant Reformation, it was taken from the Roman Catholics by the Lutheran Church in 1537. It is the northernmost medieval cathedral in the world.
I believe most tourists just like to look at the front side of the building, but as the curious person I am, I walked around and in to the graveyard.
I get so fascinated by old things, and especially things that comes with a great history. There are a lot of people buried there. Some very old from the 1800s, and some newer. Some of the gravestones were so old that the writings had faded away.
Today the cathedral is one of the biggest tourist attraction in Trondheim, and there's always people looking at it. I've heard it's really amazing at night as well.
You should definitely put Trondheim on your list of places to visit, and Nidaros Cathedral is a must-see!
I hope you liked my post and photos, and as always all feedback is very much appreciated.
Have a nice day!
Kristin.
