I heard about dCrops due to the OCD contest and decided to check it out. It seems like a nice little browser game where you farm crops, but the resources are on the HIVE blockchain and can be traded. That's pretty cool. The road map also makes it clear that the current version of the game is just the beginning. So I figured I might as well toss a little HIVE their way and get involved.

Getting started
Pop over to the website and sign up. It's trivially easy if you already have a HIVE account.

Referral link (thanks!): https://www.dcrops.com/?ref=kstreet
Once logged in, you only need a few basic things to get started.
This is what I like to see for games by the way: cheap entry prices. For <4 HIVE, you can grab the Average Farmland and a Garlic seed and get to playing.
A few notes:
- It's currently fall season, so only grab fall seeds (like garlic and carrots).
- Average Farmland only has one spot for seeds, so you just need 1 seed.
- Buying from the market requires swap.hive (pegged 1-to-1 with HIVE). You can swap in-game and then use the market.
Once you have your stuff, click Play! and then click the tractor (on the left). You'll see your plot with spaces for crop seeds. Click a plot and select a seed to add:
Once you see something like the above (with a spinning wheel saying "Planting"), find the "Plant Selected" button at the bottom of the screen (this tripped me up). That's it! Now you're a farmer! Just wait for the timer to run down and harvest your crops.
Other features
Quests
The main Play! screen shows you quests, which refresh each season. If you only have a single plot, most of these are probably out of reach (but that just means we need more plots...).
Beta Packs
Beta packs can be bought directly with HIVE (among other tokens). They can't be opened yet, though.

Roadmap
It's always nice to know that a game is under active development and has a larger vision for the future. Cooking, crafting, and even guilds are in the line up.

So what did I get?
I picked up one Awesome Land that was really cheap along with some garlic and carrots to plant. I also picked up 3 beta packs to hold on to. So my toe is officially dipped in the dCrops water, and I look forward to seeing where it goes.
I'm generally very cautious and get into new projects slowly. I really appreciate the low cost to get started. I can get involved, and if I like it, maybe invest more. Who knows? Hopefully, I'll get some winnings from the OCD competition to help build out my farm even more! Once the farm gets large enough, getting daily HIVE payouts sounds nice, too.
Happy to support gaming (in any form) on HIVE!
