Ever wonder what goes into those seasoning bottles stocked in the stores? Reading the ingredients can sometimes be like decoding a foreign language manual... when you do not understand the language that is!
So I decided to tackle the issue and make some of my own seasoning at home, starting with the one used the most in our household - Mexican Seasoning.
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons of chili flakes
4 tablespoons of cumin seeds
1 tablespoon of salt
2 tablespoons of garlic powder
2 tablespoons of dried oregano
2 tablespoons of paprika powder
1 tablespoon of dried fried onion, slightly crushed
Method:
Mix all ingredients above in a lidded container and shake until mixed together.
And you are done!
It really is that easy... and substitutions can be made:
- substitute chili flakes for powder for a more spicy seasoning or
- the cumin seeds for cumin powder - just remember 1teaspoon of cumin seeds equals 3/4 teaspoon cumin powder.
