A suspended doctor, Asif Munaf, has been exposed for running an online business called Dr Sick Ltd, which sells sick notes without proper medical checks. For as little as £29, customers can receive same-day medical certificates allowing them to take time off work for reasons like stress, pet care, or even holidays, often without providing ID, test results, or speaking to a doctor. Reporters from The Telegraph were able to obtain multiple sick notes within hours, including one allowing five months off work for a claimed Covid infection, despite providing no proof. Although Munaf is banned from practising medicine, he continues to call himself “Dr,” wears medical scrubs in promotional content, and advertises medical consultations. The sick notes bear the names of real NHS doctors, one of whom denied any involvement. His business is now under investigation by the General Medical Council and the Care Quality Commission. Critics say this case highlights serious flaws in the UK’s sick note system and have called for urgent reforms to prevent abuse and protect public trust.
