The UK government, led by Prime Minister Keir Starmer, has announced a national judge-led inquiry into organised child sexual abuse by so-called grooming gangs, following pressure from opposition politicians and Elon Musk.
The decision comes after a review by Baroness Louise Casey, who changed her initial stance and recommended the inquiry based on evidence of institutional failures in towns like Oldham.
The abuse, often involving young white girls and men of Pakistani heritage, has sparked controversy over whether authorities avoided action out of fear of being seen as racist.
Starmer said he fully accepts the recommendation, while critics, including the Conservative Party, demand accountability for those who may have covered up the crimes.
