Earn 10 or Even 20 SBD! Before Steemit the grasshopper featured in this article was just another insect. Now it’s something very special. Why?
I saw this beauty while working today in Lugano Switzerland! Both photos by

How Steemit Has Changed Me!
Steemit has made me change the way I look at things. Everything I see, everything I do and everywhere I go, the enjoyment of my surroundings has been accentuated!
I now view my life through the lenses (yes the Old Dog wears glasses) of a storyteller, an investigative reporter, and a photojournalist! What? "Am I actually all of those things?” Thanks to Steemit YES!
Who Should I Thank?
- Great Bloggers such as
,
and
just to name a few. These Steemers inspire me and obviously many others with their imagination and their drive.
- Great photographers such as
and
who have rekindled my interest in that art form and encouraged me to look at things more closely!
Look What Steemit Has "Forced" me to do in The Past Few Months!
I've done things that I would never even have considered doing without Steemit. Here are a few articels that I have written in the past few months:
- Can an Old (Entrepreneurial) Dog Learn New Crypto Tricks? Part Three: I chronicled how I managed to earn money here on Steemit and actually withdraw and spend some!
- The Old Dog Investigates: Why Are So Many Amongst The Severely Sick, Injured And Maimed Smiling At The Hildebrand Clinic?: I visited a clinic and discovered the science behind the role of environment in the healing process.
- The Old Dog Asks: Do You Love Trees? If You do Then You'll Love This Post!: I examined the history of a monumental tree and registered it for Steemit on a world wide data base.
While it’s true that you can learn a lot by reading and studying there is no doubt that you can learn more by researching, observing, investigating and then writing about it!
What Have I Learned From This Grasshopper and How Can You Earn 10 or even 20 SBD?
I took this with my iphone 5! Not too bad! This little guy was about 7 cm or just under 3 inches long!
Grasshoppers are insects of the order Orthoptera, suborder Caelifera. I tried to identify my example shown here by using a nifty on-line field guide. I did find a few that looked very similar but I was not confident enough to make a 100% identification. Perhaps this is because there are about 11,000 species and there are most likely some undescribed species, especially in tropical rain forests.
The creature shown above is not just an insect, not just a grasshopper but he is unique as a species, a sex, and as an individual. An expert could probably differentiate him from another of the same species, just like Jane Goodall did with the chimps. I find that fascinating! If you think that I'm exaggerating I found several post graduate students that are doing research on grasshoppers found in Swizerland and what they teach us about biodiversity!
Here's Where Your 10 (or even 20) SBD Come in!
Since I am endlessly curious I would like to identify the species of the critter shown above. I will transfer 10 SBD to the first Steemer that can positively identify him. Please leave your answer and the proof in the comments below.
Note: If this post earns over 100 SBD I will double the reward to 20 SBD!
Hint: Here's an app that you can download that will help indentify "Swiss Grasshoppers"
How cool is that!
In Conclusion
Once again a big thank you to the Steemit network, its creators and all of my fellow bloggers. You've helped to make my life a little more interesting, challenging and motivating! You've put a spring in my step as I explore things that used to seem more ordinary. And oh, as if you can't tell, I'm having a blast!
Until next time,
