First of all, happy new year to the wonderful people of hive learners community as well as to all hivers. 2023 is finally here and most people have different goals and dreams they have set out to achieve this year, I sincerely hope we achieve everything we have set our hearts on this year.
Yesterday was the first day of the year and as usual, it's a day of celebration all over the world. My day started right from the church because I went for the cross-over service held in my church. It was indeed a wonderful celebration and a few minutes before midnight, we all lighted our candles and ushered in the new year with singing and dancing.

I usually visit some fast food joints with my friends after the church service but they weren't around this year, so I went home after that and slept off. Morning came quickly and my family started cooking. We had a light breakfast of egg sauce, bread, and tea. My mom and sisters were busy in the kitchen preparing lunch while I assisted them in cutting carrots, spring onions, and other things meant for preparing fried rice and Cole slaw (or as my Nigerian people call it: salad).
Time flew by very fast and soon after, we had our lunch. I ate my fill and took a couple of drinks from the freezer which I regretted later on for reasons that I will reveal as we go on. I usually don't go out on festive days (Christmas and new year) because of the crowds that are always present in popular recreational centers or fast food joints and I made that known to my girlfriend but she was stubborn about it.
She picked a popular place in my city called playhouse and she planned on getting barbecued fish, cow meat pepper soup, drinks, and ice cream for dessert. I knew it was a bad idea to go out on new year's day but after failing to convince her to go the next day (today), I just tagged along. I mean, what's the worst thing that can happen?

We finally arrived at playhouse and the crowd I saw at first instantly made me sad and frustrated. We couldn't find anywhere to sit and people that were coming in immediately left after seeing the situation of things. I looked around for a while and decided to just leave to somewhere else that was close to my university. I wanted to tell my girlfriend "I told you so" but I decided against it coz she was already feeling bad about it 😆.
While on a public bus on our way to the next location, we passed a couple of recreational centers and the crowd we saw was very alarming. I was thinking about just canceling the whole thing and going back home but we got to the restaurant and bar close to my school and although it was still crowded, we were able to get seats.
We got barbecued fish and some drinks but unfortunately, there was no pepper soup. Later on, we also bought burger and ice cream but I could only eat a little because my stomach was full (remember when I said I regretted eating and drinking a lot at home? This is why 😆). We also got pizza and yogurt while leaving and took them home. I couldn't eat dinner when I got home coz my stomach was still full, so I gave the pizza to my sisters (which they said isn't tasty) and kept the yogurt in the freezer.

Even though the day didn't go as smoothly as I wanted, at least I was able to learn something; never go out on Christmas or new year's day. I will prefer to go out the day after the celebrations or even two days after. But overall, I'm glad that I was able to go out and have some fun coz I'm always cooped up in the house. I'm looking to break that habit and get out of the house more often, yesterday was a good start and I can't wait to see how the rest of the year will be.
