Good writing day compared to the past couple, but I’m still somewhat behind on Aspects of Sand. I got the next chapter prepared and posted, but Chapter 5 is still presenting difficulties (in my defense, it is likely to be longer than its predecessors).
I’m diversifying off of Wattpad for a couple reasons. Most of Wattpad is romance or fan-fiction, and that’s not my genre. Since that sort of content is nearly inescapable and might drive off my target audience, it might be worth pursuing alternate platforms, at least as a hesitant evaluation. The two I’m hoping to set up in the next couple days are Orton and Penana, with a small focus on maybe looking into Bhooks (which is aimed more at finished drafts than works in progress from what I’m seeing).
The problem with spreading out is that you have more effort going into managing your content, and if I had to do any edits I’d have to make them across all three platforms.
But the upside of this is that I’m getting three separate channels for engagement, and each of the ones I’m focusing on seems to have at least some organic engagement.
A minor irritation that prompted my shift from Wattpad sooner than I had expected (I was hoping to diversify once the novel was finished on a variety of online sites) was that Wattpad doesn’t seem to be updating my analytics.
That’s not a big deal, but it means that I can’t tell whether I’m actually getting reads. I know I’ve gotten at least a couple people expressing interest between Twitter and Goodreads notifications.
But the question is whether it’s worth doing my own promotion or if I’m getting enough from just posting to sites that have search features seems quite important to me.
