Ahoy HivePets and dPet! We have a new pup with us up in the north, and truth be told I'm a bit hesitant to claim her as my own and announce her to the chain. I kinda pulled a dick move and offered her to our very own before fully deciding on if we would keep her or not. At the same time, we both are looking to give a northern dog the forever home they deserve, so I had to jump on this pup when I saw on the local Facebook group "free puppy" because you never know where they will end up if nobody takes it, or worse, the wrong person takes it. Between our two homes, and the much easier ability for Crim to get this pup to a shelter down south (if things happened to not work out) I feel like I was making the right decision in getting this doggo to people that will see to its every need. She's stolen our hearts though, so I'm fairly confident in saying she will be staying up here with us. One day we will make it somewhere in Canada where Crim can visit her! 😁 (HIVEFest Montreal when this 'rona blows over, anyone?)
Because we are totally devoid of creativity, we chose the name Shadow. With Shady for a nickname. She follows my wife and I around like a shadow, much more than we've seen other pups do, plus she's black so it's fitting. (I once had a leopard gecko with one spot on it so I named it Spot. The last foster dog we had was a white dog named Snow... It's kind of our thing lol)
We are uncertain of her genealogy and will probably spring for a doggy DNA test on her as we might have some fun "New World" dogs in her, like Inuit Sled dog, or Chihuahua! 😆 Definitely some Chi in her, you could see it in the mother. But the mom's other breeds would be a complete guess. And dad is an unknown stray.
Our Chocolate Labrador, Millie has been having a fun, yet hectic time being a big sister. But she's no stranger to it, having helped us "raise" three dogs now. She knows when she's had enough and she knows how to get away from the pup to have a break. Big fan of putting on the puppy dog eyes and pretending that we are neglecting her in favor of the new baby though! 😝
