I made a semi-circular skirt design for my daughter (ENG/ESP)

Warm greetings to all my friends, fellow sewing enthusiasts, and members of this wonderful community! Welcome to my first sewing project of the year. I'm so excited about everything I plan to make this year, and one of my favorite projects is designing garments from fabric scraps, whether recycled or new, and transforming clothes we no longer wear. I'm excited to continue a project I loved last year, working with t-shirt yarn. My goal is for each of these projects to evolve with even greater inspiration, and I hope you all cultivate even more inspiration in all your projects.

Last week my daughter bought some beautiful red fabric so I could make her a new skirt. She loved the one I made her last month, and she'd been wanting this one for a while to coordinate with her outfits. The skirt I made for my daughter is a semi-circular design with a soft ruffle and a lovely drape, which creates a more flattering silhouette. I hope you enjoy seeing part of the cutting and sewing process I used to make this beautiful skirt.

Saludos con mucho cariño, para todos mis amigos, amantes de los hilos y las agujas, de esta hermosa comunidad, bienvenidos a mi primer proyecto de costura de este año, ando muy emocionada con todo lo que planeo confeccionar este año, y uno de mis proyectos favoritos es diseñar prendas a partir de retazos de tela, sea reciclada o nueva, también hacer transformaciones de prendas con ropa que ya no usamos. Poder darle continuidad a un proyecto que ame hacer, el año pasado con trapillo, mi meta es que cada uno de estos proyectos puedan evolucionar con mayor inspiración, no solo yo espero que ustedes también cultiven una mayor inspiración en todos sus proyectos.

La semana pasada mi hija compro una tela muy bonita de color rojo, para que le hiciera una nueva falda, ya que la que le hice el mes pasado le encanto, y esta, también tenía tiempo queriendo tenerla para combinar sus outfits, una falda que le hice a mi hija es del diseño medio circular, tiene un volado suave, con una caída bien linda, lo que hace lucir una mejor y más bella silueta, espero les guste parte de lo que fue el proceso de corte y la costura, para hacer esta bella falda.

The fabric is from Liverpool, which I love. It's easy to cut and shape, a thick fabric with good elasticity, ideal for dresses, skirts, and pants, especially for those of us just starting out in sewing because it's so easy to work with.

Before I started cutting the skirt, I measured my daughter's waist and the length she wanted the skirt to use as a guide to create a pattern before cutting. This made me feel more confident about not damaging the fabric.

The zipper we got was black, which wasn't a problem at all, since it's almost invisible and doesn't look out of place. Black and red are a great color combination.

La tela es un Liverpool, que me encanta, es fácil de cortar y de moldear, es una tela de textura gruesa, con buena elasticidad, es ideal para vestidos, faldas, pantalones, sobre todo para las que estamos iniciando en la costura por su fácil manejo.

Antes de comenzar a cortar la falda, mida el contorno de la cintura de mi hija, y el largo que ella quería la falda, para con esta, guía realizar un patrón, antes de cortar, lo que me hizo sentir más segura de no dañar la tela.

El cierre que conseguimos fue de color negro y no fue impedimento, ya que este cierre queda casi invisible y no le da un mal aspecto, puesto que el color negro y rojo son uno de los mejores aliados para combinar.

I started by folding the fabric in half, then positioned the semicircular pattern on one of its corners, secured it with pins, and then cut it. After that, I opened the fabric I had cut and the result was magnificent.

Empecé doblando la tela por una mitad, sobre esta posicionada el patrón de semicircular en una de sus esquinas, asegure con alfileres para luego cortar, luego abra la tela que corte y fue magnífico el resultado.

After cutting the rest of the fabric, I took a piece to make a rectangle for the waistband. My daughter gave me the rest of the fabric so I could make something for myself. I think I could make a nice blouse or skirt; she bought enough fabric for both of us.

I cut the rectangle in two, so I had to sew it down the center to achieve the correct waistband length. This seam will be centered on the skirt.

Después del resto de la tela, tome una parte, para cortar un rectángulo para hacer la pretina, el resto de la tela mi hija me la regalo para que me hiciera algo para mí, creo que me podría hacer una linda blusa o falda, ella compró suficiente tela para las dos.

El rectángulo que corte lo hice en dos partes, por ende tuve que coser en el centro, para lograr el largo de la pretina, esta costura quedará centrada en la falda.

I made a small cut in the center of the skirt to position the center of the waistband, which was secured with pins before sewing so that it would not move; the waistband is first sewn open right side to right side.

Hice un pequeño corte en el centro de la falda para posicionar el centro de la pretina, la misma aseguré con alfileres, antes de coserla, para que no se moviera; la pretina primero se cose abierta, lado derecho con derecho.

After sewing the first part of the waistband, I measured the zipper length before sewing and marked the waistband with a notch, indicating where I would sew the zipper.

I pinned the zipper to the right side of the fabric, and then switched to a presser foot for sewing zippers, which made my job easier.

Después que cosí la primera parte de la pretina, medí el largo del cierre antes de coser, y marque la pretina con un piquete, desde donde iba a coser el cierre.

Coloque el cierre con alfileres por el derecho de la tela, y derecho del cierre, hice cambio de telas de prensa, por una prensa telas, para coser cierre, lo que facilita mi trabajo.

After finishing sewing the zipper to the skirt, I turned it inside out and closed the skirt from where the zipper is, towards the drawstring, to sew it. After sewing it, I went to the right side and sewed a topstitch on both sides of the zipper to improve details.

Terminando de coser el cierre a la falda, le di la vuelta, por el revés, y cerré la falda, desde donde está el cierre, hacia el cordón, para coserla, después de coserla, pase al lado derecho, pase una costura de pespunte de ambos lados del cierre para mejorar detalles.

Finally, I folded the waistband and sewed it with a straight stitch, leaving the sides open to insert elastic. After my daughter tried on the skirt, it was too wide at the waist, so I decided to add elastic. I think the extra width might have been due to the stretching of the fabric during the sewing process. The good thing is that the elastic looks great on the waistband, and my daughter was very happy with her new skirt, and I was very pleased with my work.

Para finalizar, doble la pretina cosí con costura recta, dejando los lados de la pretina abiertos, para colocar un elástico, ya que después que mi hija se probara la falda, le había quedado muy ancha en la cintura, y la idea fue colocarle un elástico, creo que el ancho adicional que resulto, pudo ser en el proceso de costura, ya que la tela estirada, lo bueno es que el elástico resulto muy bonito en esta pretina, y mi hija quedo bien contenta con su nueva falda, y yo bien feliz con mi trabajo.

• Nota: el cierre va por el lado trasero de la falda, se muestra el resultado de un lado, pero originalmente, queda por la parte de atrás.
