The Sultan Ahmed mosque is an ancient mosque, called the Blue mosque for the blue tiles that adorn its walls. It was built between 1609 and 1616 years, during the reign of Ahmed I. As in many other mosques, it houses the tomb of its founder, a madrasah and a hospice. The Sultan Ahmed mosque has become one of the most striking sights of Istanbul.
