Sayur asem is very popular in Indonesia. There are many types of sayur asem. In the English language, sayur asem can mean tamarind soup. Tamarind has a sour taste, but it will be delicious with a special recipe for sayur asem. Here are the ingredients
- Two sweet corn
- 2 sprigs of young melinjo or belinjo fruit (gnetum gnemon)
- 2 young tamarinds
- some peanuts
- 1 big chayote
- five long beans
- 1 big eggplant
- 2 medium carrots
- Some young melinjo leaves.
Seasoning ingredients
- 3 bay leaves
- 2 cm galangal ( slice)
- 2 garlic
- 3 red onion
- 1 cm of shrimp paste.
- 2 teaspoons of salt
- 1 teaspoon of white sugar
- 1.5 litre of water (1500 cc)
How to cook
First step
- Boil the corn, peanuts and melinjo until well done.
- Put in chayote, carrot, and eggplant.
- Break the tamarind and put it in the pan with the vegetables.
Second step - Saute the sliced spices until fragrant.
- Put the sautéed spices in a boiling pan.
- Add the salt and sugar.
- Wait until the vegetables are half-done or well-done. I prefer half-done.
Take two pieces of corn with the vegetables. The tamarind soup is ready. The tamarind soup is best served with fried chicken, white rice, fried tofu and tempe. You can also eat the tamarind soup as an appetizer. If you need a hot and spicy taste, you can add shrimp paste chilli sauce to the soup.
