Running a tech brand in Nigeria has made me see business from a different angle. Things are not the way they used to be. Before, if you wanted to start something, you needed a physical shop, big capital and strong connections. Now many people are building solid businesses with just a smartphone, internet and consistency.
I see this every day in Lagos.
A lot of small business owners are moving online. From Instagram stores to WhatsApp catalog, payments through transfer, USSD and crypto, everything is becoming digital. Even people that were not interested in tech before are now learning because the market is changing.
One major thing technology has done is reducing distance.
You can stay in your house and work for someone in another country. You can order gadgets online without entering Computer Village. You can learn a high-income skill from YouTube for free. This was not common some years back.
For me, tech is no longer just about devices. It is about solutions.
If your phone is slow, your business will slow down.
If your internet is bad, your productivity will drop.
If you don’t understand basic digital tools, you will miss opportunities. That is why more Nigerians are investing in good gadgets now. A strong laptop is not a luxury anymore. A good smartphone is not for social media only, it is a working tool. Another interesting part is how young people are using tech to create their own path. Not everybody is waiting for white-collar jobs. Some are learning design, some are into web development, some are fixing devices, some are into digital marketing. This is the new system.
But there is still a challenge, power supply, data cost and access to original gadgets. These things affect growth. You can have the skill and the motivation, but without the right tools it becomes stressful.
That is why tech spaces in Nigeria need more support and awareness. People are ready to learn. People are ready to work. They just need the right environment.
For me, being in the tech space is not just business. It is a way of helping people stay updated in a fast-changing world. Because the truth is simple, any business that is not using technology now will struggle tomorrow.
Nigeria is moving forward, and tech is one of the major reasons.
We are still growing, but the progress is visible.
