I have been really enjoying taking you to some amazing places through pictures here. So far we have visited a lot of sites in Ghana, Burkina Faso, Morocco, Turkey, India, and Oregon.
We have visited Galleries, natural spaces, historical spaces, festivals and so much more. Today may seem a little mondane compared to some of this and a little more used to what many of you are used to seeing on a daily basis in a western city. Today we are visiting Dublin. I was there for a conference in 2014 and spent a lot of time walking around the city on my own.
Often times when I visit a place on my own I am on a very strict budget so I spend a lot of time just walking and observing an then maybe hitting up one or two sites of interest. This was all done between some meetings and I was not in the city for long. But perhaps some of my themes and interests still come through in this different environment like, art, nature, and whiskey lol.
I was staying on the river not far from the conference center in the back ground there. Luckily it was very central and I was able to walk around most everywhere and I was afforded some good weather and views. I believe the time of year was around October and the weather was still pretty favorable.
The conference was on Student and Youth Travel so the meetings were pretty interesting and I still felt motivated to get around and explore. I tried to use the bike share stations but they were not accepting any of my credit cards sadly.
Some more views along the river. Coming from Ghana and even visiting other UK cities before like London, I really did appreciate how clean the city was and this beautiful water way running right through it. The day before the confrence there was a service project for the meeting goers. A short distance outside the city there is an island we went to to pull a type of brush and cut it off at the base and collect it in piles it was very invasive and grew along the sand dunes. It was nice to be able to so easily be in and out of the city.
I don't know if you have noticed but I also like art a lot. Probably one of my ongoing themes on my blogs. Street art really does something for me too it is deviant, politically charged, fresh, ever evolving and changing. It reminds me of some times going out with a friend when I was young with some stencils at night and tagging some shit. But I was never artistic to the point of art like this. Dublin had some good walls. I will need to make a post about street art in Accra soon, we have a whole festival dedicated to it. It combines my love for street photography with street art.
I ducked into this carvery for a meal. I don't even remember what I eat but the place was like a pub food with traditional pub food. I had some beer and remember feeling very satisfied. And I kept hoofing it through the city.
I next wondered through a park. I came upon this scene with a man and his friends the Goose he seemed to have names for each of them and be pretty friendly and they seemed to know him too.
I made my way through trinity college checking out the local coeds was also important to me at that time being a single young man. It is also a famous place for many authors and stories and books.
The prior day I was kind of wandering aimlessly. The next day I was on a mission and I took a few mile walk to Jameson Distillery for my last main thing before I left Dublin.
I took a tour through the process of making whiskey and the history of the brand. I did a whiskey flight and then sampled a few at the bar too. I bought a couple of bottles and then staggered my way back to the hotel. The next day I flew back to Ghana stayed for one day then flew home to the US.
Thanks for taking another journey with me.
