Meteorologists from Nepal predicted this year that it will rain more during the Monsoon season than the previous year and it came out to be true. Just after arrival of Monsoon, one of the district known as Sindupalchok got affected badly with flood from the Melamchi river due to continuous raining for more than a week. The dam has been broken and the bridge too had been collapsed by the flood.
Melamchi is one of the important river of Nepal. It is through this same river that a large budget project has been initiated since 1998. And it was on the verge of completion this year. The major target was to provide sufficient drinking water to the people living in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, where it faces drinking water scarcity most of the times. Most of the places in Kathmandu already received the drinking water from Melamchi.
Sindupalchok is the district that always suffer from unexpected natural disasters. Over 100 houses have been affected by the flood and people have been advised to leave their home. More than 50 people have been missing till now. The rescue and search operations have been going with the help of locals, Nepal Army and Armed Police Force but it has not been so much easy. There's been electricity blackout since the flood hits the district and mobile network is also not working properly. 8 people working in Melamchi Water Project has also been swept away by the river which includes 3 Chinese, 3 Indian and 2 Nepalese.
Its sad to see how people are living under open skies when their home has been affected by the flood and it has been raining continuously. Especially, during this time of second wave pandemic. Moreover, the inhumane act of stealing from people's home when they are staying outside from home is another problems. The locals were saying that they had no charge in phone and no mobile network to complain to the police.
