Why would you want to make a table? Well, in the words of < insert generic alpha male who loves football here >, the 2018 World Cup is around the corner, so instead of making some shitty half arsed tables while the big old whales make some fucking world class versions, I thought I'd teach you all how to make something much more presentable. Not just for the World Cup but for any table that may be needed, depending on what you are posting...
I don't know, I kind of needed a thumbnail...
Let's give you an example of what's crackalacking...
A normal table would be presented as shown below:
TEAM PLD PD PTS
PLD = Played, or games played
PD = Points difference, or in football GD = Goal difference. Let's use GD because it will be easier to recognize
PTS = Points
In normal text it will look like this:
TEAM PLD GD PTS
Again, no spaces, it looks pretty fucking horrendous right? However this is surprisingly simple, and once you are able to do this you will be able to have a fucking 10 out of 10 table to present to the world in your sexy little steemit blog...
SO, WHAT'S OCCURRING...?
All you have to do, is simply put four spaces before the word 'TEAM'. I know, it doesn't make any sense at all! But give it a try...
With no spaces it looks like this:
TEAM PLD GD PTS
1 space:
TEAM PLD GD PTS
2 spaces
TEAM PLD GD PTS
3 spaces
TEAM PLD GD PTS
4 spaces
TEAM PLD GD PTS
.
So now we have a professional looking table to work with, so now lets put the countries in to see what it looks like. I'm going to use the recent six nations rugby table as an example:
TEAM WON FOR AGAINST PD BONUS PTS
Ireland 5 160 82 78 6 26
Wales 3 119 83 36 3 15
Scotland 3 101 128 -27 1 13
France 2 108 94 14 3 11
England 2 102 92 10 2 10
Italy 0 92 203 -111 1 1
As you can see, even if I put the spaces in to fit the table it looks a bit erratic. However in Steemit form it doesn't look much better either as it doesn't recognize spaces:
TEAM WON FOR AGAINST PD BONUS PTS
Ireland 5 160 82 78 6 26
Wales 3 119 83 36 3 15
Scotland 3 101 128 -27 1 13
France 2 108 94 14 3 11
England 2 102 92 10 2 10
Italy 0 92 203 -111 1 1
So how do we solve this problem? Well the simple answer her is to either use _ or . to break up the table and make it more presentable. For example. If I use a full stop (.)
TEAM WON FOR AGAINST PD BONUS PTS
Ireland...........5........160......82...........78.......6...........26
Wales.............3.........119.....83...........36.......3...........15
Scotland........3.........101....128..........27.......1...........13
France............2.........108.....94...........14.......3...........11
England.........2..........102.....92..........10.......2............10
Italy................0...........92....203........-111......1.............1
This is how it looks in Steem format:
TEAM WON FOR AGAINST PD BONUS PTS
Ireland...........5........160......82...........78.......6...........26
Wales.............3.........119.....83...........36.......3...........15
Scotland........3.........101....128..........27.......1...........13
France............2.........108.....94...........14.......3...........11
England.........2..........102.....92..........10.......2............10
Italy................0...........92....203........-111......1.............1
Or if we use the underscore (_)
TEAM WON FOR AGAINST PD BONUS PTS
Ireland__________5___160___82______78____6______26
Wales________3______119___83______36____3______15
Scotland______3______101__128_____-27____1______13
France________2______108__94______14____3______11
England_______2______102__92______10____2______10
Italy__________0_______92__203____-111____1______1
But as you can see it still doesn't fit the table even though when you place the text it seems to be in order. So what we need to do is a bit of trial and error to makes the stats fit into the table. It will be a bit tedious but it will look outstanding once it is done. For example:
TEAM WON FOR AGAINST PD BONUS PTS
Ireland.............................5........160......82.....................78.......6...................26
Wales...............................3........119......83.....................36.......3...................15
Scotland...........................3........101......128...................-27.......1...................13
France..............................2........108......94.....................14.......3...................11
England............................2........102......92.....................10.......2...................10
Italy..................................0.........92......203..................**-111** .....1....................1
With a little bit of magic will become:
TEAM WON FOR AGAINST PD BONUS PTS
Ireland.............................5......160......82..............78.......6................26
Wales...............................3......119......83..............36.......3................15
Scotland...........................3......101......128............-27.......1................13
France..............................2......108......94..............14.......3................11
England............................2......102......92..............10.......2................10
Italy..................................0.......92......203...........-111 .....1.................1
