I saw this sign today in Atlanta and all I could do was just shake my head in disbelief.
Let's say you are in fact just "down on your luck" and while you are looking to get back on your feet you are getting EBT or SNAP from the government. Now you have found this place that is willing to take your (just for example) $800 in SNAP benefits and turn it into $1600 in SNAP purchases.
That's like getting welfare and a $200 a week payment under the table. Well, Hell. Why get a job when you get double your money at this place. That's $800 a month TAX free income. $9,600.00 a year kickback if you use your EBT card at this establishment.
Is This Even Legal?
Look I get helping out your fellow man but this wreaks of fraud and it only incentivises staying in your "down on my luck" social status.
I'm just putting this out there and asking for some dialogue from my fellow STEEMians. Please share your comments on this post.
What do you think of this practice?
Is it moral?
Is it legal?
Do you think that it may in fact give someone the incentive to NOT get gainful employment if they can in fact find a job?
I really want to see what your thoughts are on this topic. I think it has a detrimental effect on those that are "captured" in the system and that effect is often long term and not in a good way.
Just my two STEEMS Worth.
